Blackhawks win game 5 while NBC likely to get a Saturday night ratings victory

Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals saw the Chicago Blackhawks defeat the Boston Bruins by a score of 3-1 at the United Center Saturday night. The win gives Chicago a 3-2 series lead and a chance to close things out in game 6 set for Monday 8.p.m. on NBC.

If the trend holds, as I expect that it will, look for NBC to get a Saturday night overall ratings win. Thus far the "peacock," has taken the night's ratings during game 1 and also in game 4. There is no reason that on Saturday night -TV's slowest night of the week - that the Stanley Cup Final game 5 between Chicago and Boston won't bring home another win for NBC.

The success of the NHL on NBC might over shadow a fine series between the Blawkhawks and the Bruins as the story of the year in the NHL. It looks like the league and the network's hard work in promoting the sports to the masses has finally paid off.

Through five games NBC has surpassed every expectation they had rating wise both on the main network as well as games 2 and 3's lofty numbers on the NBC Sports Network.

In the end it does not matter if Chicago or Boston win the Stanley Cup, right now NBC is the clear winner.
